Pilot Career Roadmap

From Classroom
to Cockpit

A structured, proven pathway that takes you from your first step to a commercial airline career.

STEP 01 — REQUIREMENTS
Class 12th / Graduation
Physics and Mathematics are compulsory subjects in Class 12th. Same requirements after graduation. If you haven't studied Mathematics or Physics, you can obtain a certificate from NIOS or another recognized board.

STEP 02 — MEDICALS
Class 2 and Class 1 Medicals
Pilots are required to be Medically Fit. First Class 2 medicals, followed by Class 1 medicals. Find the list of Class 2 Medical Examiners on dgca.gov.in. Class 1 Medicals are done at IAF Medical Center.

STEP 03 — DGCA EXAMS
DGCA Exams — Ground Classes
There are 3 DGCA Exams to be given — Regulations, Meteorology, Navigation; along with RTR Exam. 2 more exams are needed — Technical General and Technical Specific, if flying is done in India.

STEP 04 — FLYING
Flying School — India or Abroad
Choose a flying school in India or abroad and get 200+ flying hours. If flying is done abroad, 15+ flying hours are needed to be done in India for license conversion.

STEP 05 — OPTIONAL
Type Rating
To fly jets, Type Rating is required. With CPL you're eligible to sit in the airlines — hence Type Rating is optional. Type Rating can be done on any aircraft, for example A320 or B737.

You need to have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM). You must be at least 17 years old and hold a valid Class 1 Medical Certificate issued by a DGCA-approved medical examiner. No prior aviation experience is required.
